Change is the one constant in life. And yet, we are often surprised when it comes. Although no one can escape life’s inevitable transitions, people’s coping styles vary depending on a variety of factors. A transition is also an opportunity to re-brand yourself. If you look upon a transition period as an opportunity to change yourself, you’ll be able to introduce a better YOU.
Transitions are moments of leaving a past that has been reasonably steady and familiar for a future that will be different. In times of transition, now is the bridge between a long-standing past and a discontinuous, strange and unpredictable future. The bridge may be short and shakey, long and arduous, or anywhere in between. Transitions of all sorts however require leaving elements of your past behind and moving forward to a new future.
Look upon transitions—even negative transitions—as adventures. We all have the innate ability to create value out of hardship, and in so doing often add an enjoyable dimension to our lives we didn’t have before.
Transitions are part and parcel of life, in which nothing ever stands still or remains the same. To learn to navigate transitions therefore is to learn to navigate life itself. Take the time to reflect on how you handle transitions. Plan ways to improve. Because if you can learn to face transition periods with equanimity, not much else will be left in life to disturb you.
