In a world of impermanence where life is racing like horses, we tend to have unrealistic expectations and at times it isn’t wrong at all. Why not? We possess the best of everything. From materialistic things to our own people, we have taken everything for granted and wish to live in fantasy, though unknowingly most of the time. If we were to get conscious suddenly, we would be upside down. We are overly blessed to live a life of convenience, whereas in most corners of the globe, millions might yet suffer in misery.
So what does it mean to be in gratitude? Of course it means bowing in appreciation and being thankful. Oh yes, gratitude is far different from indebtedness. It is a “feeling”, warmth that you feel when you realise what you “need” to realise. So what does it mean to be thankful? There might be a few who like staying in isolation and many who would love to be surrounded by people. It is interesting to know that REFLECTIVE THANKFULNESS is acknowledging that we err and are vulnerable and we can ask for forgiveness. CONSCIOUS THANKFULNESS is the realisation of staying alive and in connection. GENUINE THANKFULNESS is interdependent. It is give and take. Gratitude is one way of finding happiness. It is a sublime affirmation to our own self.
So, whatever happens in our life is a mercy of the Almighty. We might wonder why we are put through a test or why a specific event even took place in your life and that made no sense at all. At times, in spite of being conscious, we are unable to stop things that happen in front of our eyes. There is a controlling power to which we have no control at all. It just happens. It is/was meant to happen. Our short sightedness does not allow us to see things beyond a particular boundary and that’s our own mental block. Everything that is happening or going to happen has been decided the day you were born. All we can do is change our “attitude”, our “perspective” and “visualisations”.
Gratitude is something that we need to try and develop forcefully as a habit if not yet developed. It may unlock the fullness of life.
You may write it down – What are you grateful for today?
