These days people are following the trend of ‘Affirmations’ to be recited every morning when you wake up. Either you write it 50 times in a journal or stick them on your mirror to read it every day.
So, what are affirmations? Simply put, they are positive, assertive and affirmative statements or sentences that tell you something needs to be done. What happens here is that it is tapping, knocking your unconscious/subconscious mind that knock-knock – wake up. One tries to make these affirmations repeatedly strong so that it manifests. Positive affirmations are a good way of re-programming distorted thoughts, irrational beliefs and so on.
Not everyone is comfortable with the affirmation exercise. There have been discussions on why positive thinking all the time could not be that powerful. Keeping in mind that some people may have low self-esteem, negative or All-or-Nothing mental patterns, we do have to consider their mental health in terms of anxiety levels, depression or other health concerns where repeatedly muttering these affirmations might just not work for them. Affirmations would not work for everyone. As for me, at some point, I just got so fed up that I stopped the exercise completely. For some, affirmations may not work as these statements directly focus and target the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is not that easy to reach and express unless you are under psychotherapy or hypnosis. Forcing it to wake up and start manifesting is a waste of time.
When you try to do something that you are not ready for, it won’t work no matter how hard you try. In the same way, if you are trying to make your unconscious mind affirm or assert something that is very deeply held by some incongruent or irrational belief, the results are going to be negative.
Instead, focus on your inner self, find a cosy corner to first understand what your body, mind and soul wants and then decide a course of action that suits you. Just do not follow the herd blindly.
